“Iron” Mike Tyson…. Where did it go wrong?
Tyson was always destined to be a great boxer. At 16 he competed at the 1982 Junior Olympic Games, where he won Gold!
3 years later he became a profesional and won 26 of his first 28 fights by knock-out, 16 in the first round.
November 22, 1986, Tyson was given his first title fight against Trevor Berbick for the WBC heavyweight championship of the world. Tyson won the title by second round TKO, and at the age of 20 years and 4 months became the youngest heavyweight champion in history!
Tyson followed on and went on a quest to unify the 3 major belts and on August 1 1987 he became the first heavyweight to own all three major belts — WBA, WBC, and IBF — at the same time.
Mike Tyson was so popular that he even had a Nintendo Entertainment System game that was not very good.
It all started to go wrong though and Tyson lost a fight to James “Buster” Douglas
Who also had a game released but on the rival Sega MegaDrive/ Genesis and it was much better! Just look at the difference between the two games!
In July 1991 Tyson was jailed for the rape of Desiree Washington.
He was given a sentence of six years and was released in March 1995 after serving three years.
During which time he became a Muslim.
He was released and started fighting again in 1995 regaining his WBC and WBA belts from Britains Frank Bruno and the American Bruce Seldon, it was after this fight that Tupac Shakur was shot 4 times and died.
He then entered into two fights with Evander Holyfield which resulted in Tyson biting a large part of Holyfields ear off. The boxing people didn’t like this and suspended Tyson from boxing.
This only lasted 1 year during which time Tyson earned alot of money by punching WWE/WWF Wrestler Shawn Michaels
In 1999 he finally had another boxing match this time with Francois Botha, You would think Tyson would try to stay away from controversy but no…… he tried to break Francois’s arm during the fight!
He then tried to beat up two motorists after a car accident and ended up back in jail for 9 months.
When released he had two fights in the uk against some journeymen boxers then had a fight against similarly troubled Polish boxer Andrzej Gołota, he won in round three after Gołota refused to fight. The result was later changed to a no contest as Tyson had refused to take a pre-fight drug test and then tested positive for marijuana in a post-fight urine test. Boxing when stoned!!!!!
Finally in 2002 what every boxing fan wanted was going to happen… Tyson vs Lennox Lewis.
Tyson said ” I want your heart, I want to eat your children” Lewis beat him.
You can see his house here….
More pictures of his abandoned house here. Lavish they were!
He desperately needed some money so fought Danny Williams and Kevin McBride and lost both fights!
He got into trouble again and was arrested for DUI and felony drug possession after he nearly crashed into a police car after leaving a bar.
He was sentenced to 24 hours in jail, 360 hours community service and 3 years probation. Prosecutors had requested a year long jail sentence, but the judge praised Tyson for seeking help with his drug problems.
So it seems that Tyson may finally be getting help….. but he really should lay off the pies!
